Tevel b’Tzedek is an Israeli Non-Profit supporting vulnerable rural communities in the global south in creating sustainable transformations. Tevel has fourteen years of experience as a leading organization in creating sustainable growth for rural communities while integrating International volunteers into its work within an educational volunteer program.
Through a new partnership between the University of Haifa and Tevel b’Tzedek, we are hoping to grow a community in which the passion for rigorous Jewish learning goes hand in hand with the passion for activism on a global level. Tevel b'Tzedek was founded on the conviction that Jewish tradition has an historical commitment to tzedek (justice), chesed (love) and arvut (social responsibility). Courses in this MA in Jewish Studies will highlight this history, preparing and inspiring students for an experience of lived activism abroad in its third semester.
The MA in Jewish Studies, in collaboration with Tevel b'Tzedek, is a 36 point (9 classes) degree. The MA is earned over two semesters at the University of Haifa (28 points) and a third semester abroad (8 points) in a Tevel b'Tzedek program. The University of Haifa classes will be held one day a week. The Jewish Studies courses will explore topics relevant to Tevel b'Tzedek, including “Social Justice in the Hebrew Bible,” “Justice and Charity in Rabbinic Literature,” “Community and the ‘Other’ in Medieval Jewish History,” and “Jewish Esotericism: A Magical-Mystery Tour.” Suitable candidates may also take courses offered by the University of Haifa’s International Program, including the ‘MBA with Specialization in Sustainability,' 'Diplomacy Studies,' and 'Peace and Conflict Managment.'
